After the 2016 election, I was determined to use design to make a positive impact in my community. I made a spreadsheet titled “Ways to Make a Difference” and brainstormed how I could give back and fight back. With so many ways to make an impact, I decided to create a way for myself and the community to support multiple causes at once.
The Inauguration Day Fund raised money for four progressive nonprofits in North Carolina: Equality NC, Planned Parenthood South Atlantic, NC GreenPower and NC NAACP. I built a website using WordPress and set up a GoFundMe campaign to collect donations. I designed branding and advertising for the campaign that I shared on social media and in local newspapers. I raised $1,200 total, donating $300 to each non-profit on Inauguration Day.
After making the donations on January 20, 2017, I felt empowered that the Inauguration Day Fund helped four great organizations continue to do great work.
